The Musical tradition continues at Dalhalla – Evita is coming to Dalhalla with The Ark’s front man, Ola Salo, as one of the main characters

The musical tradition continues in the historic limestone quarry. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s and Tim Rice’s classic Evita comes to Dalhalla next summer, with none other than Ola Salo taking on one of the leading roles.

From a humble upbringing to the presidential palace in Buenos Aires, Eva Perón’s life is a story of ambition, power and love. As Argentina’s First Lady, she became both adored and controversial. Evita charts her journey to the centre of power through iconic songs including ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’, ‘Oh What a Circus’ and ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’.

The musical was first released as a concept album in 1976 before making its stage debut in London in 1978. On August 14, 2027, the story will meet the dramatic limestone walls of Dalhalla in a spectacular open-air production.

Who owns the story of a person – and how is the image of a leader shaped? In this production, the historical world of Evita meets today’s celebrity culture, social media and political communication. Eva Perón’s extraordinary rise through society and her ability to win the affection of the people provide the starting point for a story about power, belonging and the human need for someone to believe in. It is a musical where personal dreams collide with political power. One woman, one nation and a legend that has never left the stage.

The production of Evita continues Tocca Entertainment’s tradition of staging major musicals at Dalhalla. Previous productions include Jesus Christ Superstar, We Will Rock You, Chess in Concert and the concert version of Kristina från Duvemåla.

Starring:
Ola Salo as Che – The musical’s narrator and critical voice. As the lead singer and songwriter of legendary Swedish rock band The Ark, Salo has been one of the most prominent figures in Swedish rock since the turn of the millennium. His musical theatre credits include playing Jesus in Jesus Christ Superstar, the title role in Hedwig and the Angry Inch, and Willy Wonka in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Gothenburg Opera. He is currently starring as Paul in Torka aldrig tårar utan handskar at Göta Lejon in Stockholm.

Rising star Amelie Lindström as Eva Perón – In her first-ever leading role. In 2024, Amelie was awarded Tocca Entertainment’s musical theatre scholarship, and the following year she graduated from the musical theatre programme at Balettakademien in Gothenburg. In 2026, she made her professional musical theatre debut in & Juliet at Cirkus in Stockholm, performing as part of the ensemble and serving as understudy for the title role – a role she went on to perform to great acclaim on several occasions. Amelie has also appeared in Ray Cooney’s farce Fångad på nätet at Krusenstiernska Teatern in Kalmar.

Johannes Kuhnke as Juan Perón – The President of Argentina. Kuhnke achieved his international film breakthrough in Ruben Östlund’s feature film Force Majeure (2014), which was nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Foreign Language Film in 2015. Kuhnke received a Guldbagge Award nomination for his leading performance in the film and has also appeared in the television series Real Humans (2012). His stage credits include Hedwig and the Angry Inch and The Jungle Book at Stockholm City Theatre.
